This marks my first time leading a duo session – and another rewarding collaboration with an instrumentalist and improvisor of the highest order – the great trumpeter, Aquiles Navarro, originally from Panama City, where he studied under the great Vitin Paz. This session was relaxed and uncluttered – the results will intrigue with repeated listenings.
I am so proud of my first duo release, with me on piano and saxophonist Blaise Siwula (who plays on tenor, alto, and soprano on this recording) on No Frills Records. We recorded this in an amazing session at Wombat Studios, Brooklyn, in August 2015. Please buy it by clicking on the Paypal button below!
The most recent release under my own name (2015), is the 2008 recording Some Ones, on Cadence Records, which can be purchased directly from me right here for $15 – You pay on PayPal and I will mail you the CD – it’s that simple. Thank you!
I also lead The Shrine Big Band, and our only CD to date, Swamp Music (recorded in 2012, released the following year) was recently praised by Donald Elfman of The New York City Jazz Record, who writes:
“It’s a dynamic and pleasing blast to the ear to hear a big band presenting structured yet free music and going from abandon to quietly dazzling with smart ensemble writing and first-rate solos”. (October, 2015)
You can also buy Swamp Music from me here for $15. I thank you so much in advance!
